John Drummond was designing in Post War Britain and his designs are a great example of how silk screen printing had changed the style of textile prints. Designing for Sandersons, Hull Traders and Heals, his prints were mainly used for furnishings. The colours are very evocative of Mid Century design, conjuring up images of the Festival of Britain and a brave new world of science, modernity and geometric angles.
Some of his designs, like the Harvest print, do hark back to a more cosy country style but primarily his designs epitomise the modern style. Born in Northern Ireland, John studied design in London in the 40s after serving in the Second World War.
